How South Eastern States Can Solve Road Crisis – Umahi

Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has reiterated his confidence in the concrete pavement as an answer to perennial road failures in the South East.

According to the governor’s media office, Umahi noted that concrete technology guarantees returns on investment, as well as ensures the durability of roads.

The Ebonyi governor made this known, on Thursday during the commissioning of a Housing Estate constructed in collaboration with Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) and Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC) and Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA) under the National Affordable Housing Delivery Programme for Nigerian Workers at Ugwuachara, Abakaliki.

While commending the state Commissioner for Trade and Investment, Chioma Nweze, for diligent supervision of the project, the governor noted that the ministry’s commitment prompted the projects’ timely completion. He commended FMBN for delivering best quality project.

He stated: ‘Concrete technology is the answer to our road problems in the South East. This is a decent job, and I commend you for that. If we can do this, then confidence in government would be restored. Shelter over our heads will give us comfort and sense of belonging.’

Earlier, the Group Managing Director (GMD), COPEN Group, the contractors who handled project, Ugochukwu Chime, commended Umahi’s commitment to the project.

Chime remarked that workers and people of the state have never had it so good under the Umahi administration.

He said: ‘Promoting the welfare of workers in the state has not prevented our governor from touching lives of residents in Ebonyi by the huge value-engineering efforts in extending the state’s infrastructure backbone.’

Chime lauded Umahi for his determination and commitment, as well as drive towards the project, noting that the aim of the collaboration was to ensure each participating stakeholder contributes something towards affordability and availability of shelter for our people.
