Listen to article

Mr. Babachir Lawal who is the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), has claimed that the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Ahmed Tinubu said campaigning in the South-East was a waste of time and resources during the party’s primaries.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today which was monitored by The Eastern Updates, Mr. Lawal said; ‘During the convention, he didn’t even allow us to go the South-East’.

‘He said it was a waste of time and money.’

Mr Lawal made the comment while analysing Mr Tinubu’s chances in the imminent February presidential polls.

According to him, the APC candidate stands no chance of winning the election.

Mr Lawal has endorsed the Labour Party’s Peter Obi, although he is still a member of the APC.

He broke off with Mr Tinubu after the latter announced a Muslim as his running mate for the 2023 polls.

Mr Lawal and some other APC members had advocated for the appointment of a Northern Christian in order to balance the ticket.

Meanwhile, Tinubu has vowed to negotiate with all agitators in the Southeast amid Biafra agitation led by Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

According to Tinubu, the negotiation with all agitators would go a long way in ensuring peace in the Southeast if elected president in 2023.

He made the pledge during Thursday’s APC presidential and governorship campaign rally in Ebonyi State.

Tinubu insisted that negotiation was the best way for people to get their demands and complaints rather than resorting to violence.

He also promised to invest in education if elected president.
