Insecurity: Army Commences Special Operation In Abia

The Nigerian Army has announced that it had begun a ‘Field Training Exercise’ codenamed ‘Exercise GOLDEN DAWN Il’ in Abia State.

This was made known in a release by the Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 14 Brigade Ohafia, who explained that the exercise had commenced October 2, and would last till December 23, 2022.

According to the release, the exercise is geared towards training the troops on the security of innocent and law-abiding citizens in the state especially during the Yuletide season.

‘It is also aimed at testing the conduct of troops during the electioneering activities, in preparation for the 2023 general elections’, the release added.

The release further revealed that the exercise would be conducted in collaboration with other security agencies.

It is designed to promo condusive environment for business and other socio-economic activities for the good people of Abia State during the festive season.

‘Additionally, it would feature a number of Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) activities to demonstrate the friendliness of the Nigerian Army in the host communities across Abia State. Some of which include medical outreaches and educational support programmes to schools.’

The Army solicited the support and cooperation of the people to its troops.

In a related development, fresh reports reaching the Akpawfu community in the Nkanu East local council of Enugu State has reportedly come under some of heavy bombardment as land and air troops had stormed and raided the community in a bid to destroy some secret camps of suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and armed bandits in the area.

The raids, which some of the sources said had commenced Thursday came to a head Saturday morning with some of the military helicopters dropping explosives in forests within Ajeme Akpawfu village where the hoodlums had been terrorising parts of Nkanu land and Enugu city are believed to be hiding.
