Apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has urged residents of Enugu State to ignore a trending video alleging that a helicopter dropped hundreds of people on top of a hill in Enugu capital city.

A female voice behind the video had claimed that she saw a helicopter drop off over hundred unknown persons.

The Enugu State Police Command had earlier on Saturday described as mischievous and fake the trending video.

Similarly, in a statement by the National President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike which was obtained by The Eastern Updates he described the video as mischief taken too far.

He said “following series of enquires from well meaning Nigerians on the claims about helicopters dropping hundreds of unknown persons on the top of Ugwu-ajali hill, bordering Ologo, Jamboree and Coal Camp areas of Enugu, we activated our network and findings showed that no such thing happened.

“Apart from Air Force chopper that undertakes training of personnel within that location, no helicopter came close to that location, let alone dropping hundreds of unknown persons.”

Okwu said it had become pertinent to caution against the abuse of the social media as it could backfire when the real danger comes.

“The other day it was a fake video claiming that soldiers were killed. Today again it is about a single helicopter dropping hundreds of people. This is unimaginable.

“We want to appeal to our people to exercise restraint as this kind of false alarm will do no one any good. Let us not destroy our house with fake news.

“Having said this, I urge the people of Enugu State to go about their normal businesses,” he added.

The rumours have continued to circulate on social media.
