Abducted Imo Monarch Escapes From Kidnapper Den

Reports reaching the desk of The Eastern Updates have it that the traditional ruler of Isiala Umudi, in the Nkwerre Local Government Area of Imo State, Joel Nwankwo, has escaped from the grips of his abductors.

A source said the monarch escaped from Okwu forest in the Ikeduru LGA of the state, where he was taken to by his abductors after he was abducted last Friday.

Nwankwo’s abductors had called his family 48 hours after his kidnap and demanded N200m ransom but later reduced it to N12m before the monarch escaped.

The source said, ‘By the grace of God, His Royal Highness has escaped from the den of his kidnappers. He took advantage of the lapses of his abductors at Okwu forest in Ikeduru LGA to run away.’

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Micheal Abattam, had yet to respond to the inquiry concerning the development as at the time this report was filed.

In another development, the kidnapped Vice-Chairman of the Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State, Chief Frank Ozue, on Wednesday night, regained freedom after spending three days in the kidnappers den.

The Eastern Updates gathered that the politician’s family paid N7m to secure his release from the gunmen who kidnapped him along Iwhre-Ovie/Oviri-Ogor Road in Ogor Town, off Ughelli/Evwreni section of the East-West Road on Sunday.

After regaining his freedom, Ozue took to his Facebook page on Thursday morning to confirm the development.

‘I regained my freedom from daredevil extremists, Hausas living within us, now turned Boko Haram in our communities,’ the politician said.

When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, confirmed Ozue’s freedom from the kidnappers den.
