Bank Robbery: Do Not Panic, Police Assure Ebonyi Residents

The Ebonyi State Police Command assured residents not to panic following a letter reportedly written to the community by armed robbers notifying them of their planned attack.
Briefing journalists in Abakaliki on the incident the Ebonyi state Commissioner for Police Philip Maku, said the Command have not received any notification concerning the letter written by any armed robbers, but assured them of a tight security network throughout the state to checkmate any possible attack.He told the people to ignore the rumour of the purported letter saying no one have any evidence of uch a letter warning criminals and those planning to destabilise the state to have a re-think as the Command have put in place adequate security measures to send them packing.

The Guardian learnt that there was tension and anxiety at Afikpo in the Afikpo North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State following a rumour of the unconfirmed letter reportedly written to the community by armed robbers notifying them of their planned visit to the community.

The robbers according to our correspondent wrote to one of the old generation bank in the ancient city with a threat to attack the bank.

This prompted all the security agents to mobilise their men to the town.
