Labour Party’s flagbearer in the upcoming Anambra governorship election, Chief George Moghalu, has dismissed rumours suggesting his party is collapsing into the African Democratic Congress (ADC), branding those behind the claims as mere cowards intimidated by the LP’s growing influence across the state.
Speaking on Monday at the inauguration of the George Moghalu/Ifeoma Okaro Campaign Council, Moghalu insisted that the ADC coalition only pertains to the 2027 general elections and does not affect the current governorship contest.
He said, “There’s no iota of truth in the rumour. It’s being circulated by those threatened by the strength, popularity and acceptability of LP in the state.
“When the propaganda first started that our leader, Peter Obi has left Labour, he refuted it, assuring he’ll campaign for the party. He even promised to be present during our Friday campaign rally in Onitsha.

“The coalition is only in 2027 general elections. The rumour peddlers are afraid and looking for where to hang their jackets. And that’s how to know parties with unpopular candidates.”
While inaugurating the campaign council, Moghalu thanked members for agreeing to work with him, stressing that to whom much is given, much is expected.
He added, “This election is not a tea party. It’s not a game you play carrying snuff in your hands. Removing an incumbent, even the lame we have now is not an easy task.
“Some said it’s impossible, but I said it’s possible because it has happened before. Incumbent has been defeated both in this state and outside the state.
“But we must understand that elections are won at the polling units and not at the state capital. And that’s where our capacity will be tested.
The Director-General of the Campaign Organisation, Okey Chukwuogo, expressed confidence that George Moghalu’s emergence as the next governor of Anambra State would be achieved through the collective resolve and unity of party members.
Also speaking, the Labour Party Chairman for Idemili, Ugochukwu Emeh, stated that the campaign council members were carefully selected based on their proven capacity to deliver. He affirmed that Chief Moghalu is fully prepared—spiritually, physically, and financially—to secure victory at the polls on November 8.
