The spokesman for the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Ladipo Johnson, has said that it would not be insulting if President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) offered Rabiu Kwankwaso the vice-presidential slot in the 2027 elections.
In an interview with Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Monday, Johnson said members of the APC reached out to him regarding a possible Tinubu-Kwankwaso pairing
“It’s not insulting to offer him the vice president slot; whether he accepts or not is a different matter,” Johnson stated.
He also added that since the elections in 2023, the NNPP has kept its door open to speaking with any party expressing interest in working for the country’s betterment.
Johnson is also one of the people who has been working with Kwankwaso since 2013. Ultimately, he said, the decision will be by consensus of the NNPP.
“People from the APC have called me to say: ‘If he is offered, please encourage him to accept,’ but it is a team game,” he added.
Kwankwoson a former Kano State governor and the NNPP’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, remains a significant political figure in Kano and the Northern Nigeria.
In other news, The New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, has said that if its 2023 presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, joins the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, it would remove a great burden for members.
The National Secretary of the party, Oginni Olaposi, said this in a statement on Sunday in Lagos.
This comes following the resignation of APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, and speculations that he quit the ruling party over an alleged move by Kwankwaso to join them.
The Eastern Updates reports that Ganduje resigned from his chairmanship position of the APC on Friday, citing health issues.
