President Bola Tinubu on Monday pledged to make Nigerian youths return to mechanized farming.
Tinubu said his administration would make farming “more sexy” to Nigerian youths.
He gave the assurance at the launch of the Renewed Hope Agricultural Mechanisation Programme in Abuja.
Tinubu said the programme signifies the beginning of the fulfillment of his promise to make Nigeria a global agricultural powerhouse.

He said: “We have here over 2,000 advanced tractors, 50 industrial-grade land preparation bulldozers, 12 fully equipped mobile workshops, and 9,000-plus specialised farming implements.
“This equipment, when deployed will empower mechanisation and service providers, create job opportunities, and make farming easy and more sexy for our young ones.
“You don’t have to use an 18th-century method for a 21st-century agricultural farming implement.”
He also disclosed that his government is closely working with international partners to empower the youths with skills on how to use modern agricultural tools.
According to Tinubu, the knowledge of modern agricultural practice would help Nigerian youths to be financially independent.
In other news, Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, SERAP has urged President Bola Tinubu to urgently refer the situation in Benue and other states to the International Criminal Court, ICC, for the court to exercise its jurisdiction over the violeence and unlawful killings and other serious violations of international humanitarian and human rights law in the state.
SERAP says referring the Benue situation to the International Criminal Court, ICC, would demonstrate Tinubu’s commitment to combating human rights crisis in the state.
The Eastern Updates recalls that Professor James Ayatse, the Tor Tiv and the state’s paramount ruler had Told Tinubu during his visit that the attacks in Benue were calculated, well-planned, full-scale genocidal invasion and land-grabbing campaign by herder terrorists and bandits, which has been going on for decades.
