Police authorities in Niger State have confirmed the death of a 25-year-old man, Chede Japo, who lost his life during a violent altercation at Kudu Village Market in Mokwa Local Government Area.

The incident took place on Sunday, June 9, around 4:00 p.m during a market day gathering.

According to security expert, Zagazola Makama on his X handle, a group of eight herdsmen from Fulani Camp in Gbete Village allegedly clashed with three residents from Uppo Village.

The confrontation quickly escalated into violence.

Among those identified in the altercation are Suka Alh. Sani, Adamu Mukwake, Mohammed Abubakar, Umaru Usman, Mohammed Garba, Umaru Garba, Usman Garba, and Abubakar Majo.

During the fight, Suka Alh. Sani was reported to have stabbed Chede Japo in the neck.

Police officers from Mokwa Division responded promptly and rushed the victim to the General Hospital in Mokwa. Unfortunately, doctors confirmed Japo was dead on arrival.

His remains were later deposited at the hospital’s mortuary for a postmortem examination.

Two other individuals identified as Shehu Usman and another man named Abubakar (surname yet to be confirmed), sustained injuries during the clash and are currently being treated at the same hospital.

Authorities say investigations are ongoing to determine the root cause of the violence and ensure those responsible are brought to justice.

In other news, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth wing has condemned the alleged summon of the Uzo-Uwani local government chairman, Mr Chijioke Ezugwu by the Enugu State police command.

The group said should the harassment of the LG chairman continue, it would be left with no option than to mobilize the Igbo youths for a mother of all protests.

The Eastern Updates reports that rampaging herdsmen have killed scores of people in Uzo-Uwani in the past weeks, leading to the strengthening of internal security to safeguard the residents.

However, according to SaharaReporters, the council boss was summoned, alongside the vigilante group, to the state police command headquarters.
