Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, has insisted the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, cannot give their presidential ticket to the North ahead of the 2027 election.
Wike stated this during a media chat on Monday.
His comments appeared to be directed to PDP’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Atiku Abubakar.
Wike said: “PDP cannot give the presidential ticket to the North (in 2027).
“Selfishness can kill a system.
“For example, if Mr President runs and wins in 2027, by 2031 APC will send their presidential ticket to the North.
“PDP will do what then? You will come back then and say since APC is sending it to the North, we should follow them and give it to the North?”
In other news, Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication and New Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, on Thursday claimed that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi cannot work together.
Olayinka said Obi will not join the opposition coalition because he and Atiku cannot work together.
Featuring on Arise Television’s Morning Show, Olayinka insisted that Obi and Atiku won’t agree on who becomes the coalition’s presidential flag bearer in 2027.
He noted that the coalition spearheaded by Atiku was dead on arrival.
In 2019, Obi was Atiku’s presidential running mate in the Peoples Democratic Party but left after they lost the election.
But, Atiku invited Obi to join the opposition coalition aimed at ensuring that Tinubu loses the 2027 presidential election.
However, Olayinka stressed that Obi will not be part of a coalition that would benefit Atiku.
