Northwest Govs Meet In Kaduna Over Insecurity, Others

Governors from states in the Northwest zone met at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim House in Kaduna on Friday night where they discussed issues affecting the region such as insecurity, excessive use of drugs among others.

Chairman of the Northwest Governors’ Forum and Governor of Katsina State, Dr. Umar Radda, told journalists after the meeting early Saturday that the states have agreed to work together in tackling all the issues raised.

According to him, “We just concluded our meeting and the deliberation was very fruitful. We had a long discussion on issues bordering challenges affecting our region and we have had presentations from Northwest Development Commission, as well as the Federal Medical University Funtua, for the region.

“We also discussed issues of drug abuse and how to prevent excessive use of drugs in the region and other collaborations. We have all agreed to work together on these issues raised in order to bring the necessary development that is needed in the region.”

Earlier, the host Governor, Uba Sani, said they were working together to tackle issues affecting the region and were in close collaboration with development partners to find solutions to the issues of poverty, unemployment, among others, that would bring the needed development to the region.

In other news, the Northern Governors Forum, NGF, has called on the National Assembly to institute a legislation for the creation of state police to boost security across the country.

Director General Press and, Media Affairs to Yobe State Governor, Mamman Mohammed, in a press release noted that the call was contained in a communique at the end of Forum’s meeting on Saturday which was read by its Chairman, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya.
