Popular Nigerian social media influencer Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan, VDM, has been detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
Activist lawyer Deji Adeyanju confirmed this in a post on his official Facebook page on Friday evening.
Earlier reports suggested that Guaranty Trust Bank, GTB, ordered VDM’s arrest following his criticism of the bank after alleged unauthorised transactions were made from his mother’s account.

In an update, Adeyanju stated that a team of lawyers led by the “Head of our firm @Marvin_Omorogbe just met VDM’s friend, who was arrested together with him in EFCC custody.
“VDM refused to come out of the cell; that he won’t see anyone. VDM was locked inside the GTB exit door for over 5 mins to enable EFCC to arrest him and his friend.
“We will be taking legal actions against GTB for the inhumane treatment meted out to our client,” he posted.
The arrest reportedly occurred shortly after he visited a Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) branch to complain about alleged unauthorized transactions from his mother’s account.
His lawyer, Barrister Deji Adeyanju, has also stated on Friday via Twitter that officers of the Nigeria Police Force apprehended the activist in the Area 3 district of Abuja.
However, the human rights activist and lawyer later took to his X handle, stating: “VDM DETAINED AT EFCC: Our lawyers, led by the head of our firm, @Marvin_Omorogbe, just met VDM’s friend—who was arrested alongside him—in EFCC custody.
