United States billionaire, Elon Musk, who leads the Department of Government Efficiency, DOGE, has announced the termination of 269 wasteful contracts worth $845million in the past few days.

DOGE disclosed this in a statement released on its X account on Thursday.

According to DOGE, among the cancelled contracts is a $50,000 Interior consulting contract to provide facilitation and collaborative problem solving services.

The US agency noted that the cancellations have resulted in savings of $255 million for the country.

“Over the last several days, agencies have terminated 269 wasteful contracts with a ceiling value of $845M and savings of $255M, including a $50k @Interior consulting contract to “provide facilitation and collaborative problem solving services,” DOGE stated on X.

DOGE also announced the termination of $90 million in wasteful grants.

“Agencies also terminated $90M in wasteful grants, including $995k for a “BIPOC culinary program” and $625k for a Russian-Far East biodiversity partnership,” it added.

This is coming less than a week after DOGE reacted to the cancellation of 402 wasteful DEI grants worth $233 million by the US National Science Foundation, NSF.

In another news, Chinese Foreign Minister, Wang Yi on Tuesday, urged Britain and the European Union to safeguard multilateral trading systems, as Beijing seeks to rally support from trading partners to counter US tariff measures.

The Eastern Updates had reported that China and the United States have remained locked in a deepening trade war, with tit-for-tat tariff hikes that have significantly disrupted bilateral commerce.

“The United States has weaponised tariffs to launch indiscriminate attacks on countries, openly violating WTO rules and undermining the legitimate rights and interests of others,” Wang said.
