PDP Govs Challenge Fubara’s Suspension At Supreme Court

Eleven governors of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, have approached the Supreme Court to challenge the powers of the President to suspend democratically elected governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara.

The suit filed by the governors also opposed the declaration of state of emergency in the state.

The Eastern Updates reports that the plaintiffs in the suit are the governors of Adamawa, Enugu, Osun, Oyo, Bauchi, Akwa Ibom, Plateau, Delta, Taraba, Zamfara and Bayelsa states.

Filing the suit through their state Attorney Generals, the plaintiffs predicated the summons on eight grounds.

They urged the apex court to determine if the President has the power to suspend a democratically elected structure of a state.

The plaintiffs also asked the court to determine if the way President Bola Tinubu pronounced the state of emergency declaration in Rivers State was not in contravention of the 1999 Constitution.

In other news, the Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, LP, in the 2023 general election, Peter Obi, has debunked speculations suggesting he is planning to leave the party.

Obi insisted he has not discussed the issue with any individual or group.

He made this clarification while addressing party members during the ongoing National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Abuja.

The former governor of Anambra State made it clear that any decisions about the party’s future would be made in consultation with its stakeholders.

“I’ve not told anybody that I’m leaving the Labour Party,” Obi said.

Two leading figures of the Labour Party, the 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and Abia State governor, Alex Otti, have summoned a meeting of the National Executive Committee, NEC, of the party.
