I’ve Not Told Anyone I’m Leaving LP – Peter Obi At NEC Meeting

The Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, LP, in the 2023 general election, Peter Obi, has debunked speculations suggesting he is planning to leave the party.

Obi insisted he has not discussed the issue with any individual or group.

He made this clarification while addressing party members during the ongoing National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Abuja.

The former governor of Anambra State made it clear that any decisions about the party’s future would be made in consultation with its stakeholders.

“I’ve not told anybody that I’m leaving the Labour Party,” Obi said.

Two leading figures of the Labour Party, the 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and Abia State governor, Alex Otti, have summoned a meeting of the National Executive Committee, NEC, of the party.

The NEC meeting is scheduled to hold in Abuja on Wednesday, April 9, 2025.

A notice issued by Obi and Otti said the NEC meeting will be followed concurrently by an interactive town hall engagement with major stakeholders and other organs of the party at Transcorp Hilton.

The notice was signed by Ibrahim Umar, the POMR spokesman and forwarded to Newsmen.

According to Umar, stakeholders listed to attend the meeting include the vice presidential candidate for the 2023 election, serving and former senators and senatorial candidates of the LP in the 2023 election, serving and former members of House of Representatives and LP House of Representatives candidates in 2023 election.

Others include all members of the National Caretaker Committee and NTC, all former governorship candidates who are still in the party, representatives of the NLC/TUC Political Commission, and all members of the former LP National Working Committee.

The meeting is coming after last week’s Supreme Court ruling which terminated the Julius Abure-led NWC.
