The Rivers State Government has announced the immediate suspension of all political office holders and appointees throughout the state.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the Chief of Staff to the Administrator clarified that this decision aligns with the authority granted to Retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, the state’s Sole Administrator, by President Bola Tinubu.
The suspension hits a wide range of Rivers State’s top brass, pulling in some big names:
- The Secretary to the State Government, the one keeping the cabinet’s gears turning.
- The Chief of Staff, the governor’s go-to for day-to-day strategy.
- All the Honourable Commissioners running the state’s key ministries.
- The heads and members of boards, councils, agencies, commissions, institutions, and parastatals—folks who keep the wheels spinning.
- Every Special Adviser, Special Assistant, and Senior Special Assistant advising behind the scenes.
The order didn’t stop there—it told these officials to hand things over to the Permanent Secretaries in their ministries, departments, and agencies, the steady hands who know the ropes. If there’s no Permanent Secretary around, the job goes to the most senior Director or Head of Administration, someone seasoned enough to hold the fort while the dust settles.

This directive takes effect from Wednesday, March 26, 2025.

THE RIVERS STATE GOVERNMENT ANNOUNCES THE SUSPENSION OF POLITICAL OFFICE HOLDERS AND APPOINTEES IN RIVERS STATE.
THIS IS PURSUANT TO THE POWERS CONFERRED ON THE ADMINISTRATOR OF RIVERS STATE, HIS EXCELLENCY, VICE ADMIRAL (RTD) IBOK ETE EKWE IBAS CFR, BY THE PRESIDENT, HIS EXCELLENCY, ASHIWAJU BOLA AHMED TINUBU, GCFR
THOSE SUSPENDED INCLUDE;
- THE SECRETARY TO THE STATE GOVERNMENT
- THE CHIEF OF STAFF
- HONOURABLE COMMISSIONERS
- CHAIRMEN AND MEMBERS OF ALL BOARDS, COUNCILS OF AGENCIES, COMMISSIONS, INSTITUTIONS, AND PARASTATALS.
- SPECIAL ADVISERS, SPECIAL ASISSTANTS, AND SENIOR SPECIAL ASSISTANTS.
THIS SUSPENSION TAKES EFFECT FROM WEDNESDAY MARCH 26, 2025 THE AFFECTED OFFICERS ARE TO HAND OVER TO THE PERMANENT SECRETARIES IN THEIR MDAS. WHERE THERE MAY BE NO PERMANENT SECRETARY, THEY ARE TO HAND OVER TO THE MOST SENIOR DIRECTOR/HEAD OF ADMINISTRATION
