Signal Group Chat Leaks: Trump Takes Decision On Security Team

Listen to article

United States President Donald Trump has decided to maintain confidence in his national security team following the release of additional text messages from a Signal group chat detailing the Yemen strike.

This was disclosed by White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt on Wednesday.

“What I can say definitively is what I just spoke to the president about, and he continues to have confidence in his national security team,” Leavitt told reporters in the White House briefing room.

Leavitt’s comment was in response to a reporter’s question on whether anyone would be dismissed over the Signal group chat scandal.

When asked if Trump felt misled by national security advisers or whoever assured him that no classified information was in the chat, Leavitt added, “I have given you my answer.

“The president feels the same today as he did yesterday.”

This comes less than 24 hours after Trump’s National Security Adviser, Mike Waltz, said he took full responsibility for inviting a reporter into a Signal group chat of Trump administration officials discussing plans for an imminent military strike on the Houthis in Yemen.

Waltz made this statement on Tuesday during an interview on The Ingraham Angle, a programme on Fox News, describing the situation as embarrassing.

In other news, United States President Donald Trump is scheduled to announce plans for long-promised tariffs on automotive imports at a press conference on Wednesday.

This is anticipated to be a move that will further escalate the global trade war Trump initiated upon returning to the White House on 20 January 2025.

The White House has not provided details on the scope of the expected tariffs, including whether there will be any exemptions for vehicles or parts produced under the US-Canada-Mexico Agreement, the regional trade deal that Trump negotiated during his first term, which provides for largely duty-free trade with the US’s two largest trading partners.
