Hope Uzodimma, the governor of Imo State, delivered a sobering assessment of the dire security situation in Imo West, known as the Orlu Zone. During a recent inspection of ongoing state projects in the region, he highlighted how persistent threats have ravaged public infrastructure and stifled socio-economic progress.
Amid the survey of construction sites, he struck a note of cautious optimism. Security, he observed, has reached a state of relative stability—a modest gain, but a meaningful one. Surrounded by the steady rhythm of development work, he cast the present moment as a pivotal opportunity for renewal. He described the widespread building efforts as an “infrastructural revolution,” a deliberate strategy to reposition Imo State for sustained economic and social advancement. His vision, articulated with conviction, positions these projects as a foundation for enduring prosperity, reflecting a calculated commitment to the state’s future.
“We have a pack of multiple constructions and road projects to recover the economy of the zone and also to recover life for our people in this area”, he said, stressing his resolve to impact positively on the lives and wellbeing of Imo people.
“Governance is all about evidence of what you have put in place to make life more meaningful for the people. With the available scarce resources of the people, we will do our best to earn and justify the confidence they have in us”, he said.

During his tour, Governor Hope Uzodimma evaluated a series of significant projects across the Orlu Zone, showcasing both completed and ongoing efforts to revitalize Imo West. Among the finished initiatives he inspected were the Mgbidi-Omuma-Okporo road, now fully operational, and the Orlu township road, which extends from Banana Junction in Amaifeke through Umuna and Eziachi to Anara. He also examined the newly reconstructed Legislative Chamber for the Orlu Local Government Council and the Traditional Rulers Council Hall—both structures previously devastated by insurgent activities that swept through the state.
The governor’s itinerary included a review of ongoing developments, such as the Imo State Government House Annex in Eziachi, Orlu, still taking shape. At the Imo State University Teaching Hospital in Umuna, Orlu, he assessed the Kidney Transplant Centre, the newly operational Oxygen Plant, and various departments and wards. In a notable gesture during this visit, Uzodimma personally authorized the payment of medical bills for all patients in the Male Surgical Ward, as well as others, covering costs amounting to millions of Naira.
At the Orlu-Mgbee-Akokwa-Uga road, a stretch severely damaged by erosion and now under reconstruction, Uzodimma commended the construction firm’s exemplary standards. He highlighted the superior quality and advanced techniques employed, noting that the company’s approach to both work ethic and technology represented a benchmark of excellence in addressing the region’s infrastructure challenges.
