Former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has reaffirmed his commitment to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), vowing to boost its support base across the country. In a statement released Thursday by his spokesman, Garba Shehu, Buhari emphasized his unwavering loyalty to the party that carried him to power during his two terms in office.
He noted that he remains dedicated to the APC and will continue working to strengthen its presence among Nigerians, pointing to his active role in promoting the party’s agenda even after leaving the presidency. His pledge comes as the APC navigates its next chapter, with Buhari’s influence still a notable factor in shaping its appeal to the electorate.
“I am an APC member and I like to be addressed as such. I will try to popularise the party by all means,” the president was quoted as saying amid rumours of defections from the ruling party.

“I am an APC member, and I like to be addressed as one,” Buhari declared, leaving no room for ambiguity about his political identity. He expressed a firm resolve to stay connected to the party that propelled him to the presidency for two terms, promising to leverage his influence to broaden its reach. “I will never turn my back on the APC,” he said, adding, “I will do whatever I can to popularize it among Nigerians.”

Buhari’s comments underscore his intention to remain a key figure in the APC’s orbit, focusing on bolstering its popularity without wading into the specifics of ongoing party debates or leadership dynamics. He went on to add that at present, he has nothing but gratitude for the support that the party gave him before and during his tenure as president, which he considers as the highest honor, and would never ask for anything more.
He further stated that the pains taken by the founding fathers to establish a strong party to protect our constitution, and democracy as a system of government are worthy sacrifices that should be cherished and nurtured.
