Meta yanked the plug on 20 staffers caught funneling insider details to the press, a crackdown unfolding as the social media titan grapples with scrutiny over Mark Zuckerberg’s cozying up to U.S. President Donald Trump—a pivot that’s stirred the political sphere.
“From day one, we drill into our team—and keep nudging them along the way—that spilling company secrets is a hard no, whatever the motive,” a Meta voice affirmed, echoing a scoop first broken by The Verge with a steely nod to discipline.
“Our latest probe unearthed about 20 folks who crossed that line, shipping sensitive info beyond our walls, and they’re out the door—more heads might roll yet,” the firm disclosed, signaling a purge still in motion.
“We don’t mess around with this, and we’ll keep swinging the axe whenever we sniff out a breach,” they doubled down, underscoring a zero-tolerance stance.

The sackings landed hot on the heels of a flurry of exposés tied to Zuckerberg’s closed-door huddles with his crew, a leak spree that lit the fuse for Meta’s swift retaliation.
In one meeting, first reported by The Verge, Zuckerberg told employees he would no longer be forthcoming with information because “we try to be really open and then everything I say leaks. It sucks.”
Zuckerberg also tossed out a heads-up to his team, urging them to “brace for impact” in the year ahead, while pledging that Meta would lock arms with the White House as a powerhouse ally.
Since Trump’s victory in November 2024, the tech elite have largely rallied behind him, with Zuckerberg executing a notable pivot toward the GOP camp following the president’s second ascent to power—a shift that’s turned heads in Silicon Valley.
