Nigeria’s Minister of Defense, Alhaji Muhammed Badaru Abubakar, has stated that security conditions have significantly improved in the Northwest and north-central regions of the country.
He credited this progress to sustained and coordinated military operations against banditry, particularly in Zamfara, Sokoto, Niger, Katsina, and Kaduna states, where security challenges have been prevalent.
Speaking to journalists in Birnin Kudu, the headquarters of Birnin Kudu Local Government Area in Jigawa State, the minister reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to completely eradicating insurgency before the year ends.
According to him, various stakeholders—including opinion leaders, civil society organizations (CSOs), and local residents—have acknowledged a noticeable reduction in terrorist and bandit activities.
“From the feedback we are receiving, people across the affected areas are confirming that the security situation has improved significantly. However, despite these positive developments, we remain committed to building on these achievements,” he said.
He further emphasized that the government is prioritizing adequate logistical support for the armed forces to ensure they have all necessary resources to maintain and enhance security efforts throughout the year.
In other news, the Chief of Defence Staff, CDS, Gen. Christopher Musa on Wednesday said the military met all the requirements and passed through all the processes in respect of the recent visa application to the Canadian High Commission.
Musa made this known in Abuja when he received the Armed Forces of Nigeria Contingent who won medals at the just concluded Invictus Games in Vancouver, Canada.
He said that most people who made comments against Nigeria’s participation in the sporting event spoke from the point of ignorance.
“On the issue of the denial of the visa, we must not travel abroad. Nigeria is good enough for all of us.
“We had an agreement, we were invited, a programme was sent, we followed our requirements and the process.
“Everybody knows members of the Armed Forces will never take shortcuts. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, the NSA and everybody is aware of this journey and we followed the process.
