Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has announced that starting December 2024, state civil servants will receive a minimum wage of ₦70,000. This new policy, which aims to ease the economic burden on workers, is a step towards ensuring that the state’s civil service is better compensated and able to meet the rising costs of living.
The governor’s spokesperson, Mamman Mohammed, confirmed that the approval was made after the state government’s committee on Minimum Wage presented its recommendation for the new wage structure.
The committee, tasked with evaluating the local government’s financial stability, suggested a comprehensive review and reconciliation of the finances to facilitate a smooth and seamless transition for the local government councils.
This transition would involve moving from the current salary structure to the newly approved minimum wage, ensuring no disruptions in the process.

The committee’s proposal included a financial reconciliation across local governments to ensure that the transition to the new minimum wage system would be executed efficiently.
As the reconciliation process approaches its conclusion, the approval of the new salary structure is expected to be finalized shortly, ensuring that local government employees are promptly enrolled into the new pay system.
The government expects civil servants in the state to reciprocate the gesture by putting in their best to ensure effective and efficient service delivery.
