Israel’s Netanyahu Ousts Defence Minister Due To Distrust

Listen to article

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced the firing of Defence Minister Yoav Gallant on Tuesday, a decision prompted by what his office described as a serious breakdown in trust during the war against Hamas in Gaza. This dismissal illustrates the deepening complexities within the government amid escalating tensions in the region.

“Over the past few months that trust has eroded. In light of this, I decided today to end the term of the defence minister,” Netanyahu said in a statement issued by his office, adding that he had appointed Foreign Minister Israel Katz to take his place.

The newly dismissed Defence Minister wasted no time in addressing his termination, asserting that protecting the country’s security would forever be the “mission of his life.” His comments emphasize a sense of duty that persists, even as Israel navigates a challenging and uncertain military environment.
