The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially fixed November 8th, 2025, for the Anambra governorship election, this points to pivotal moment in the state’s political calendar.
INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu announced the election date during a meeting with political parties in Abuja on Thursday, emphasizing the commission’s readiness to ensure a smooth process.
“As you are aware, the last governorship election in Anambra State was held on 6th November 2021,” Mahmood said.
“By the effluxion of time, the governorship election is due next year. Consequently, the Commission has approved that the 2025 Anambra State Governorship election will hold on Saturday 8th November 2025.”

He added that the commission would release a formal notice for the election on November 13th, 2024, giving the necessary signal for political activities to begin in earnest.
Yakubu specified that political parties will have from March 20th to April 10th, 2025, to conduct their primaries, signaling the official commencement of internal candidate selection processes.
“The candidate nomination portal will open at 9.00 am on 18th April 2025 and close at 6.00 pm on 12th May 2025,” he said.
“The final list of candidates will be published on 9th June 2025. Campaigns in public by political parties will commence on 11th June 2025 and end at midnight of Thursday 6th November 2025.”
