Tuesday’s terrorist onslaught in Bamako, Mali, targeting a military airport and training facility, has drawn swift and fierce rebuke from Nigeria, decrying the senseless loss of life and widespread destruction, including the loss of multiple aircraft.

On Saturday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the recent attack, with Ambassador Eche Abu-Obe describing it as “abominable” and cautioning that extremist groups remain a significant and ongoing threat to peace and stability in the region.

“This heinous act, which has claimed lives and caused destruction of several military aircraft, is yet another stark reminder of the persistent threat posed by extremist groups in the region.

“It must be emphasised that acts of terrorism, regardless of where they occur, represent a threat to peace and security for the entire region,” the statement said in part.

The Federal Government expressed its deepest sympathies to Mali’s government and the families of the victims, saying, “We stand in solidarity with those affected, and our thoughts and prayers are with them as they navigate this tragic incident.”
