Nigerians in the far north will soon face higher fuel costs, as the NNPC plans to sell petrol from the Dangote Refinery at over N1,000 per liter. The company’s decision is set to impact the region’s fuel market, with consumers advised to adjust their budgets accordingly.
Olufemi Soneye, spokesperson for the NNPC, revealed on Monday that the company will sell petrol from the Dangote Refinery at a price exceeding N1,000 per liter in the far north. This announcement was made in a statement outlining the estimated pump prices of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) based on September 2024 pricing.
According to Olufemi Soneye, NNPC spokesperson, the price of petrol from the Dangote Refinery could reach as high as N1,019 per liter in certain areas, such as Borno State. In other locations, like Abuja, Sokoto, and Kano, the price is expected to be slightly lower, at N999.22 per liter.
Residents in Oyo, Rivers, and other southern states can expect a relatively lower price point, with petrol from the Dangote Refinery set to cost N960 per liter.
The NNPC’s infographic reveals that Lagos and its environs will have the most competitive pricing, with petrol selling at N950 per liter, the lowest price point across the country.

“The NNPC Ltd has released estimated prices of Premium Motor Spirit, also known as petrol (obtained from the Dangote Refinery) in its retail stations across the country.
“The NNPC Ltd also wishes to state that, in line with the provisions of the Petroleum Industry Act, PMS prices are not set by the government, but negotiated directly between parties at an arm’s length,” he stated.
The company explained that the product it loaded on Sunday was paid for in dollars.
“The NNPC Ltd can confirm that it is paying Dangote Refinery in USD for September 2024 PMS offtake, as naira transactions will only commence on October 1, 2024.
“The NNPC Ltd assures that if the quoted pricing is disputed, it will be grateful for any discount from the Dangote Refinery, which will be passed on 100 per cent to the general public,” the statement added.
Soneye explained that the estimated pump prices for Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) were sourced directly from the Dangote Refinery and will be applicable at all NNPC retail stations nationwide, effective September 2024.
Just a day prior, the Dangote Group had disputed the NNPC’s claim that it was selling Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) at N898, but notably, the company did not provide its own price list at the time.
