Yusuf Magaji Bichi, the man who has been at the forefront of Nigeria’s domestic intelligence agency, the Department of State Services (DSS), has called it quits, resigning as Director General in a surprise decision.
The news of Bichi’s resignation broke on Monday, courtesy of a statement released by Ajuri Ngelale, the media aide to President Bola Tinubu.
In a double-barreled announcement, Ajuri Ngelale revealed that President Bola Tinubu has appointed new heads for the Department of State Services (DSS) and the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), following the resignation of Ahmed Abubakar as NIA Director-General on Saturday.
The new guard at Nigeria’s top security agencies has been unveiled, with Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi taking over as Director-General of the DSS and Mohammed Mohammed assuming the same role at the NIA, replacing Bichi and Abubakar respectively.
With his resignation, Bichi concludes an illustrious career at the DSS, marked by steady advancement and a commitment to excellence, achieving the highest rank in the organization.

He served variously in different capacities including as the State Director of Security (SDS) in Jigawa, Niger, Sokoto and Abia States.
He also served as a Director in all the National Headquarter Directorates namely; Security Enforcement, Operations, Intelligence, Inspectorate, Administration and Finance, National Assembly Liaison and the State Services Academy, Lagos, one of the training institutions of the Service.
Bichi was appointed the DG of the DSS by former President Muhammadu Buhari in September 2018.
