The Kaduna State Police Command has announced the capture of two notorious figures involved in the illicit gun trade, along with an individual accused of collaborating with kidnappers by providing crucial information.
State police command operatives demonstrated their prowess by foiling a kidnapping attempt and rescuing two victims in two separate operations, dealing a significant blow to the kidnappers’ plans.
On Monday, the command’s Public Relations Officer, Mansir Hassan, revealed that operatives from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit had intercepted two gunrunners, Abulaziz Habibu and Nuhu Thomas, on August 14, 2024, in Madaci village, Zaria, while in possession of a makeshift AK-47 rifle.
According to him, ‘the suspects confessed to supplying weapons to bandits operating in the Zaria area while providing crucial leads for further investigations.’
According to the PPRO, Mansir Hassan, the police conducted a separate operation, resulting in the arrest of Abubakar Yahuza, believed to be an informant for kidnappers, at Gidan Abeh village in Kagarko LGA.
The police spokesman further revealed that on August 18, 2024, officers swiftly responded to a distress call about gunfire in Kuriga village, successfully foiling a kidnapping attempt and rescuing two farmers who had been ambushed by bandits.
The state Commissioner of Police, Audu Dabigi, praised the officers for their bravery and selflessness, as stated in the release, and encouraged the public to maintain their support for the police by providing reliable information to aid in the fight against crime.
As stated in the release, the suspects confessed to their roles in the illegal arms trade, admitting to supplying weapons to notorious bandits responsible for wreaking havoc in the Zaria area.
During questioning, the suspect confessed to playing a dual role as an errand runner and informant for the kidnappers, who allegedly operate from the Gidan Dogo Forest, as stated in the release.
