Governor Alex Otti has shaken up the leadership of the Broadcasting Corporation of Abia State (BCA) with the appointment of Francis Obinna Nwaubani as the new acting Director General.
This surprise move is expected to bring a breath of fresh air to the state’s broadcasting industry, paving the way for exciting developments ahead.
Governor Alex Otti has orchestrated a significant leadership change at the Broadcasting Corporation of Abia State, appointing Francis Obinna Nwaubani to take the helm as acting Director General, while Mrs. Esther Agu Anyanwu embarks on compulsory retirement. This strategic move is designed to inject new life into the organization and propel it towards a brighter future.
Prior to her compulsory retirement, Mrs. Esther Agu Anyanwu had been holding the fort in an acting capacity as Director General, following the departure of her predecessor, Hyacinth Okoli. Her tenure, marked by dedication and service, has now come to a close, paving the way for a new leader.

Mrs. Esther Agu Anyanwu’s progression from Director of Finance (DF) to acting Director General was a logical step, given her impressive track record in financial stewardship. Her ability to navigate complex financial landscapes served her well in her later position.
The Abia State Head of Service’s office issued a circular on July 30, 2024, formally announcing the compulsory retirement of Mrs. Esther Agu Anyanwu, a move that signals a significant change in the organization’s leadership structure.
The circular, HSA/S.0117/Vol.V/44, which was signed by Kalu Boniface, for the Head of Service read in part:
“Directive to proceed on compulsory retirement:
“I am Directed to refer to the above subject and convey the directive of His Excellency Dr Alex Otti, OFR, the Executive Governor of Abia State for you to proceed on compulsory retirement with effect from the 31st of July 2024”.
According to the directive, the acting DG is to hand over to the new acting helmsman, Francis Obinna Nwaubani.
The circular also said that the newly appointed DG, who is from the Department of News and Current Affairs, came first during a recent interview conducted to fill the vacant position.
Confirming his appointment to journalists, the new acting Director General, Nwaubani said: “I am humbled. Thanks for all your good wishes and felicitations. I seek for your continued prayers and support in anyway for the great challenges ahead.”
Before the new development, BCA, which has Radio and Television stations, experienced some breaches in transmission for about two weeks.
