National Protest May Yield Unwanted Results, Nnam Says

Nigeria’s economic struggles have sparked a rallying cry from Dr. Victor Nnam, a veteran administrator and former Commissioner for Lands and Urban Development in Enugu State, who is imploring the nation’s youth to remain patient and trust that the Federal Government is working to turn the economic tide.

On Saturday, Dr. Victor Nnam, a former Commissioner for Lands and Urban Development, shared words of wisdom with Igbo youths in Enugu, advising them to reconsider their plans to participate in the nationwide protest, which he believed could be counterproductive and detrimental to the nation’s fragile stability.

While acknowledging the economic hardships faced by many Nigerians, Dr. Nnam cautioned that meaningful reform is a gradual process that demands careful planning, strategic execution, and a willingness to allow the government the necessary time to implement effective solutions.

“I understand the pain and suffering that many of our young people are experiencing. However, we must recognize that fixing the economy is a complex task that cannot be achieved overnight,” he stated.

Dr. Nnam acknowledged the Federal Government’s concerted efforts to stabilize the economy, noting that a series of strategic policies and reforms were being rolled out to drive growth, boost economic activity, and generate employment opportunities.

The former commissioner implored youths to get behind the government’s initiatives, advocating for patience and understanding as the administration works to translate its vision into concrete achievements.

“While protests are a democratic right and a way to express dissatisfaction, they often lead to unintended consequences such as violence, property damage, and further economic disruption. At this critical juncture, what we need is unity and constructive engagement, not actions that could destabilize our efforts to rebuild,” he added.

The senior lecturer also called on youth leaders and civil society organizations to channel their energies into dialogue and collaboration with the government.

“Let us come together to propose viable solutions and work hand in hand with our leaders to ensure a brighter future for all Nigerians,” he urged.

The former commissioner reminded young Nigerians that economic revitalization is a slow-burning fire, requiring sustained effort and unwavering resolve, rather than a quick fix or instant solution.

He emphasized the need for a positive outlook and unshakeable commitment, noting that although the road to economic rebound may be lengthy, a concerted and resilient approach can enable the country to overcome its difficulties and achieve the desired prosperous Nigeria.
