The Ebonyi State House of Assembly Service Commission is shaking things up with a bold new approach to tackling absenteeism.

As of August 1st, 2024, employees who fail to report for duty will face a salary deduction proportional to their absence, marking a significant cultural shift towards accountability.

As part of its efforts to revamp the Assembly’s work environment, the Commission has introduced a weekly “Monday Makeover” program, where the complex will undergo a comprehensive cleaning, ensuring a clean, healthy, and inspiring space for lawmakers and staff to serve the state.

Rt Hon Francis Elem, Chairman of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly Service Commission, recently rallied staff with a passionate call to excellence, unveiling the Commission’s sweeping reforms.

He emphasized that cleanliness is not just a virtue, but a vital aspect of our professional DNA, leaving no doubt that a spotless Assembly complex is non-negotiable.

The Chairman elaborated that a disturbing trend of laxity among certain employees led the Commission to gather all Department Heads for a high-level meeting, where they collectively resolved to implement a pay-for-attendance policy, aiming to boost accountability.

In a nod to exemplary leadership, Chairman Francis Elem sang the praises of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for his unwavering commitment to the State House of Assembly, and equally lauded Speaker Moses Ije Odunwa for his masterful stewardship of the legislative complex.

Elem drove home the point that in light of the Governor’s and Speaker’s transformative efforts, the onus is now on State House of Assembly staff to respond in kind by embracing a strong work ethic, marked by regular attendance, timely arrivals, and a full day’s productivity.

Mrs. Maryrose Chinwe Ezeagu, Secretary of the Commission, urged staff to remain vigilant and dedicated to their responsibilities, while also expressing her gratitude to the Chairman and Commission members for their unwavering commitment to enhancing employee welfare.
