Governor Alex Otti has thrown his weight behind the Abia State Agency for Community and Social Development Project, clearing the way for 23 communities in 10 local government areas to tap into its benefits.
This landmark decision marks a significant milestone in the state’s quest for sustainable development, promising to bring about far-reaching positive change.
Next week’s funding disbursement will mark the starting gun for a flurry of construction activity, as the state government embarks on a mission to deliver critical projects in a blistering three-week timeframe. This bold move underscores the administration’s commitment to swift, impactful action, transforming localities in a matter of weeks.
Governor Alex Otti’s vision for a rapidly transformed Abia State was on full display at the recent event, where his Special Adviser on Policies and Interventions, Rev Fr. Christian Anokwuru, stood in for him. With a sense of urgency, the governor’s representative conveyed Otti’s unwavering commitment to catapulting every corner of the state into a new era of development.
At a capacity-building session for community project monitors on Thursday, Ekejiuba Ekpo, General Manager of the Abia State Agency for Community and Social Development Project, reaffirmed the agency’s dedication to transparency and fiscal responsibility.
Ekpo assured that a stringent monitoring mechanism would be put in place to track project execution, preventing any potential misuse of funds and ensuring that community development objectives are met.

Ekejiuba Ekpo revealed that the Abia State Government is taking the lead with a substantial 95% funding contribution, while the communities set to benefit are providing a vital 5% counterpart investment.
This joint effort is further bolstered by the deployment of community development officers from local government areas, who will provide an additional layer of oversight and expertise.
He noted that Governor Alex Otti is interested in developing every part of the state, especially the rural communities where basic amenities are lacking.
The general manager, who tasked the members of the Project Monitoring Committee to ensure transparency, accountability and dedication, warned that the funds would be thoroughly audited to ensure that they tallied with the quality of jobs executed.
The 23 benefiting communities are Amaeke-Alayi, Uhabiri, Ohokobe, Umuode Nsulu, Ndiaku, Ugwunagbo, Ogbuebele, Oria Na Agu, Abala and Nunya.
Others are Avonkwu, Ndiokereke Abam, Amaeke Isiegbu, Ajata Okwuru, Umuodeche , Ndiudumukwu, Nsukwe, Amato Isingwu and Umuawa Alaocha
The rest are Umuajiji Isieke, Mbato Ofoeme and Mbom Afarata communities.
The projects to be executed include primary health centres, water boreholes, and the reconstruction of school buildings.
