Six lives were lost in a ghastly multiple accident on the Agulu-Awgbu Road in Orumba North LGA, Anambra State, on Tuesday. The FRSC reported that the tragic incident occurred at Eke Awgbu, leaving families and friends in mourning.

Adeoye Irelewuyi, the FRSC’s top official in the state, disclosed the details of the accident to reporters in Awka, explaining that a truck, a three-wheeled vehicle, and two motorcycles were entangled in the fatal crash.

Irelewuyi attributed the devastating crash to a lethal mix of speeding and mechanical failure, revealing that the accident occurred at 10 a.m. when the roads were likely bustling with activity.

Irelewuyi revealed that the chaotic crash scene featured a BUA-owned commercial truck, eerily lacking a registration number, and a commercial tricycle with the registration number NZH84LG, painting a picture of a potentially disastrous mix of vehicles.

“A commercial motorcycle with registration number OLU245QV and a private Honda motorcycle with no registration number were also involved in the accident.

“According to eyewitnesses, the driver of the truck was on speed, had a brake failure, lost control of the vehicle, and collided with other vehicles at a checkpoint and crashed.

“A total of 11 persons were involved in the crash comprising nine male adults and two female adults, out of which five people sustained injuries and six others were killed,” Mr Irelewuyi said.

The Sector Commander explained that, prior to the FRSC’s arrival, the injured had been expedited to Awgbu’s Referral Health Centre for medical attention, and the fatalities were taken to St. Joseph’s Mortuary in Adazi-Nnukwu, where they would be properly handled.

The sector commander expressed condolences to the family of the deceased victims and wished speedy recovery to those injured.

Mr Irelewuyi urged motorists to maintain a safe speed limit to arrive at their destination alive.

He admonished drivers to rein in their speed, warning that the failure to do so could lead to devastating outcomes.
