Soludo Under Pressure As Nnobi Youths Seek PG’s Dismissal

A delegation of disgruntled Nnobi youths gathered at the Anambra State Government House, imploring Governor Soludo to address their community’s leadership woes by removing the President-General, whom they accuse of perpetuating corruption, suppressing dissent, and ruling with an iron fist.

The youths who took their grievances to the Government House at the weekend, carried placards with various inscriptions such as  “We Want the PG Sacked, Nnobi PG Is Corrupt and High-handed, PG Has No Developmental Plan for Nnobi other than do Dethrone Igwe, Nnobi Peace Committee Report Is A Fraud, Enough of Sacrilegious Witchhunt Against The Royal Throne, One Can’t Be A Judge In His Own Case” to mention a few of what were written on the placards.

The protesting youths confided in The Eastern Updates that they can no longer abide the President-General’s behavior, which they believe is not only detrimental to the community’s well-being but also fostering division and discord among its members.

Repeated attempts to reach Barr. Dominic Savio Okpala, President-General of Nnobi community, for comment on the allegations levied by protesting youths went unanswered, but Emeka Eze, leader of the disgruntled group, made it clear that they have lost faith in Okpala’s leadership and his handling of the town union’s affairs.

Emeka Eze, a dedicated financial contributor to the Nnobi Welfare Organization (NWO), sounded the alarm that Nnobi is grappling with a grave crisis.

He alleged that a peace committee report, intended to promote harmony, has been tampered with by the President-General’s allies, leaving the youth disillusioned and frustrated.

Emeka Eze explained that the youths turned to the government for help to prevent the Nnobi community’s crisis from escalating into chaos. He accused the President-General of authoritarian behavior, bypassing the Igwe and Igwe-in-Council by single-handedly submitting a peace committee report to the Local Government Commissioner.

Eze disclosed that a peace committee member’s opposition to the hasty submission of the report to the Local Government Commissioner resulted in the arrest of those who bypassed proper channels and transmitted the report directly to the Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Community Affairs.

Emeka Eze explained that Nnobi community is divided into three quarters – Ebenesi, Ngo, and Awuda. He alleged that the chairmen of Ebenesi and Ngo quarters are refusing to vacate their offices despite their tenures having expired, and are colluding with the President-General to perpetuate their stay.

In a show of appreciation, Mr. Henry Nwasike, Public Relations Officer for the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Community Affairs, acknowledged the impactful contributions of youths to community growth, as he addressed the protesting youths on behalf of the state government.
