Student’s Life Cut Short In Community-Linked Kidnapping

 The people of Ndufu Alike, Ebonyi state, are reeling from the shocking discovery of Maxwell Okeke’s lifeless body, a student at Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu Alike (AE-FUNAI), which was found under the bridge of Ako stream in Nwakpu village, along the Ikwo/Abakaliki road, in a state of decomposition.

Sources close to the investigation have confirmed that Maxwell Okeke’s life was cruelly extinguished when he was kidnapped and killed by a group of community members, a devastating act of violence that has left a trail of grief and anger in its wake.

Eyewitnesses reveal that a student was engaged in a heated conversation with a group of young individuals shortly after a minor bike mishap occurred while he was en route to his hostel from school.

A student’s testimony revealed that the deceased was last seen in the company of a group of youths who were seeking assistance for their friends who had sustained injuries.

The source said dodged an oncoming bike and the Ikwo guys got injured because he dodged being hit by the bike. “His decomposed body was found by a river side and one of my course mates who is a close friend to the deceased went to confirm if he was actually the one by the clothes he wore the last time they saw him before the abduction took place. So he said the missing guy is actually dead.”

The state police spokesperson, DSP Joshua Ukandu, reported that four individuals have been taken into custody in relation to the tragic incident, as learned by The Eastern Updates. In a separate statement, Elom Iyke Ubochi, the university’s public relations officer, also acknowledged the tragic event, offering a corroborating account.

The statement partially read: “The security agencies have apprehended some of those alleged to be involved in the abduction of Magnus and did everything possible to rescue him alive. “Unfortunately, on Monday, 17th June 2024, the decomposing body of Magnus was painfully recovered under the bridge of Ako stream at Nwakpu village, along Ikwo/Abakaliki road.”

A tragic loss has shaken the Ebonyi State University community, as the body of final-year student Favour Ugwuka was found in her hostel room at the Ishieke Campus. While details are still emerging, sources close to the investigation indicate that the young woman’s death may have been a suicide.

The deceased’s mother has come forward with a poignant accusation, alleging that Dr. Enyi, her lecturer, bore some culpability in her daughter’s heartbreaking decision to end her life, a loss that has shaken the community.
