A group of heavily armed individuals launched a surprise attack on the Ogbaru Local Government Secretariat in Anambra State, unleashing a frenzy of violence that left four patrol vehicles in charred and mangled heaps.

According to Anambra State Police Command’s spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, the Ogbaru Local Government Secretariat assault occurred during the early hours of Saturday, catching authorities off guard.

“The attack, which resulted in the destruction of four patrol vehicles belonging to the vigilantes, has been described as an act of cowardice. Notably, there were no casualties,” the police spokesman said in a statement.

A swarm of attackers, traveling by motorbike and car, descended upon the scene, unleashing a hail of bullets in a reckless display of violence, according to Tochukwu Ikenga’s account.

“However, they faced strong resistance from the Vigilante Operatives until the police response team arrived. Due to the superior firepower of the security operatives, the gunmen fled the scene. Unfortunately, four operational vehicles of the security operatives were engulfed in flames and severely damaged,” he said.

“In response to this incident, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations led a joint security force comprising the Army, Navy, and other security agencies to the scene for an on-the-spot assessment. Ongoing onslaught operations are being carried out to apprehend the culprits.”

Following the incident, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) spearheaded a multi-agency team, encompassing the military, naval forces, and other security units, to conduct a thorough investigation at the scene. A concerted effort is currently underway to track down and arrest the perpetrators.
