Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has emphasized that his administration is working diligently to ensure the swift fulfillment of campaign promises and to rectify any inconsistencies.
On Wednesday, as the reconstruction of the 67Km Umuahia-Uzuakoli-Akara-Ohafia Road commenced, Governor Otti stressed the urgency, indicating the selection of three contractors—Craneburg, Ferotex, and CCECC—to work simultaneously as a deliberate choice to avoid time wastage.
Governor Otti stressed the importance of timely completion, expressing his desire for the Umuahia-Uzuakoli-Akara-Ohafia Road project to be delivered to specifications promptly. He emphasized the need for the state’s residents to have well-constructed roads for convenient travel and transportation of farm produce.
He said, “We want our people to move on motorable roads. We want people who are doing business in all the nooks and crannies of Abia to be able to evacuate their products and come to the townships to sell them.
“We want all our leaders to feel free, those who live in Lagos, Port Harcourt, Aba and all parts of the state to feel free to come back to their villages spend time, spend money and stimulate the economy in the villages so that our people will also have a good life. That is how the economy moves.”

The governor called on well-to-do people of the state who reside outside the state to begin to visit their communities more frequently as a way of stimulating the local economy, stating that the idea of embarking on the road project is to open up the communities so that the people can begin to enjoy good life.
“How can you be first when your roads from every nook and cranny are in serious dilapidation? How can you be first if your hospitals are now where people go to and don’t come out alive?
“How can you be first if your schools are in a serious state of disrepair? How can you be first if your people cannot sleep with their two eyes closed? How can you be first if the environment is littered with garbage?”
“Any time you breathe, you breathe in foul air. So, these are the things we decided to deal with as quickly as we took over office and we are very intentional about that”, he added.
Mr. Otumchere Oti, Commissioner for Works, revealed in his address that the ambitious undertaking unfolds across three sectors: Umuahia to Uzuakoli, Uzuakoli to Akara Junction in Isuikwuato, and Akara Junction to Ohafia, with Craneburg, Ferotex, and CCECC spearheading the development.
Expressing gratitude to the governor for his steadfast dedication to addressing the entire expanse of the state, particularly in road infrastructure, the commissioner emphasized that the initial stage, spanning from Umuahia to Uzuakoli, will undergo a comprehensive transformation into a dual carriageway. The scope of the contract encompasses rectifying deteriorated segments, erecting culverts and drainages, and installing street lights.
