The House of Assembly in Enugu State has passed the 2024 budget estimate worth ₦521,561,386,000, which was submitted to the House by Governor Peter Mbah earlier this month, into law.
Anthony Nwankwo who is the Chairman, House Committee on Appropriation, who presented a report on the budget estimate at the floor of the House said after a thorough scrutiny, the committee found the budget estimate to be without flaws and therefore requested it be accepted and passed into law
Other members of the House, who spoke on the merits of the budget, said with a capital expenditure of ₦414,334,120,000, representing over 70 per cent of the entire budget, the state would soon witness unparalleled development in infrastructure and human capital development. Speaker Uche Ugwu, shortly after passing the budget, said the House would undertake adequate oversight to ensure an appropriate implementation of the budget in the interest of the masses.

‘Today, members of the House of Assembly performed their constitutional duty and have just passed this budget of disruptive economic growth into law. It is now a working document for the executive arm of this covenant.
‘The budget that has about 79 per cent capital expenditure and 21 per cent recurrent expenditure with each sector of the economy like agriculture, education and the health sectors taking large portions of the funds is capable of delivering Enugu State to prosperity.
‘I enjoin the executive to try very hard to implement the content of the document. And I want to assure the people of this state that this House of Assembly is going to take our oversight functions very seriously.’
‘It is not going to be business as usual. We are going to ensure every funds we have appropriated shall be put to judicious use. Let me take this opportunity to thank Governor Mbah for giving a lifeline to the economy of this state,’ he said.
