The Government of Enugu State has expressed its willingness to spend ₦178m to empower indigent and vulnerable people in the state in the coming year, 2024.
This was made known by the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Dr. Roberts Ozongwu on Friday during a breakdown of the 2024 budget proposal which was presented by Gov. Peter Mbah to the state on Tuesday.
He said the state will expend ₦178m to cater for the physically challenged and the vulnerable as well as spend N700m to procure Solar Energy as alternative power source for the Enugu State House of Assembly, Ozongwu also disclosed.

According to the Commissioner, ₦7.2bn was mapped out to purchase official and security vehicles for office of the governor.
He stated further that ₦200m will be used to acquire equipment for security personnel at the office of the governor, while ₦40m will be used to acquire 20 drones for aerial surveillance for office of the governor as well.
He said that within the budget, government will construct over 1,250 Kikometer roads across the state.
Ozongwu pointed out the state will get funds to finance the projects through prudent management of funds and plugging of revenue leakages as well as the funds accruing from federation accounts.
He said ‘In view of the anticipated rise in federation accounts transfers as a result of rise in oil price at International market, priority will however also be given to prudent management of public funds, plugging of revenue leakages in IGR through compulsory buse of the pay direct system in all government transactions as well as the creation of an inventor-friendly environment’.
