The Imo State Police Command announced on Sunday that John Ugorji, the owner of Johnny Supermarket, had been kidnapped in Owerri, Imo state, last Friday.
This information was shared with journalists in Owerri by Henry Okoye, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO).
When providing details, he explained that upon receiving the distress call about the kidnapping, the police immediately took action. Unfortunately, by the time they arrived at the scene, the kidnappers had already seized the man.
The Police said, ‘On 30/06/2023 at about 0200hrs, a distress call was received from an eyewitness at Ikenegbu, Owerri Urban, that he saw armed men dragging a man out of his vehicle and taking him hostage.’
‘On receipt of this info, Operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping squad were swiftly marshaled to the scene. But unfortunately, the hoodlums had already escaped with the unsuspecting victim, highly suspected to be one John Ugorji ‘m’ before the arrival of Police Operatives, a vehicle suspected to be that of the victim was recovered at the Station.’

‘The Victim’s family is yet to make an official report to the Police. However discreet investigations are ongoing for possible rescue of the kidnapped victims as well as the arrest of his Kidnappers,’ he added.
As the investigation progresses, the Imo state Police Command appeals to the public to come forward with any relevant information that could assist in the rescue operation and the arrest of the kidnappers. The collective effort of law enforcement and the community is pivotal in restoring security and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
In the face of this unfortunate incident, the Imo State Police Command has noted that they are resolute in their dedication to protecting the lives and property of the citizens. Measures will be taken to bolster security and intensify the search for the victim.
