Listen to article

A disturbing revelation has been made public through an Anambra State Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Ify Obinabo, who has delved into the grim underbelly of a brothel in Oba.

It was there where underage girls, coerced into prostitution, fell victim to a despicable operation led by ‘Madam Venza.’

As public awareness mounts following the viral circulation of a video capturing the brothel’s activities, Obinabo, accompanied by the Anambra State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare and the state police command, has embarked on an assignment to rescue these innocent girls.

The woman and her spouse underwent additional interrogation after allegedly offering a bribe of N2 million to the commissioner, aiming to maintain their operation of a facility involved in the exploitation of underage girls subjected to sex trafficking.

During a media interaction in Awka on Wednesday, Obinabo revealed that prior to apprehending the suspects, she had informed both the state police and Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo. The governor had instructed her to rescue the girls and provided guidance on the approach employed to capture the aforementioned suspect.

In light of the suspect’s apprehension, she emphasised her unwavering determination to locate the missing girls, stating that their discovery would now be facilitated due to the suspect being in custody.

‘We are ready to go as far as sealing off the brothel in order to rescue the kids, give them a better life and reunite them with their families.’

‘At the same time, we appreciate the efforts of the Anambra State Police Command in working closely with the ministry in apprehending the suspects as and when needed,’ she added.

She vowed to go to great lengths, and even to seal off the brothel, to ensure the safe rescue of the children, granting them an opportunity for a better life and reuniting them with their families.

The battle against exploitation and the protection of vulnerable individuals remains a paramount priority for the government and society as a whole.
