The Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, has inaugurated a judicial panel of inquiry to recover government properties and funds allegedly looted by past administrations who have governed the state.
The Eastern Updates recalls that Otti had a week after his inauguration, called on those in possession of government properties to return them to the government.
Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Kenneth Kalu, who confirmed the setting up of the panel in a statement sent to The Eastern Updates, listed Justice Florence Ikwuoma Duruoha- Igwe, as the chairman while members include Prof. Ogwo Ekeoma Ogwo, Mazi Ugochukwu Okoroafor, Rev. Fr. Alex Okonkwo and Prof. Ursula Ngozi Akanwa.
The SSG explained that the terms of reference of the panel and date of inauguration would be made known to the chairman of the panel.
He said; ‘The Governor of Abia State has approved the constitution of a panel of inquiry on the recovery of government properties and funds belonging to Abia State. In view of the above, I’m pleased to convey the Governor’s approval appointing your Lordship as the chairman of the panel. Terms of reference and date of inauguration will be duly communicated to your Lordship.’
In another report, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo has, again, appealed to the Federal Government to release the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.
President of the apex Igbo socio-cultural group, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, made the appeal at the inauguration of the women and youth wing of the group, yesterday. in Abuja, saying Kanu’s release was central to peace in the South East region
He said not even the appointment of 100 service chiefs from the region by President Bola Tinubu would bring peace and security to the South East, like obeying the court judgment freeing Kanu from DSS detention in Abuja.
