Reactions As Ikpeazu Announces Mass Promotion Of Workers

Listen to article

There was massive jubilation in parts of Abia State yesterday following the promotion of all Abia State civil servants to the next grade level by the outgoing Governor of the state, Okezie Ikpeazu.

The Eastern Updates gathered that the mass promotion is set to become effective from the month of April, 2023.

Ikpeazu, who made the approval at Ochende International Conference Centre in Umuahia during his interactive meeting with members of National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) in the State, explained that the gesture was part of his administration’s efforts in sustaining the welfare of Abia workers.

He revealed that his government rejected some suggestions to sack civil servants in the State but rather employed more workers, even as he maintained that no government had taken care of Abia civil servants like the PDP-led government did.

Admitting that his outgoing government was not able to solve all problems of the State, Ikpeazu explained to Abia civil servants that he put the State in a better condition than he met it, as according to him, figures from the National Bureau of Statistics confirmed Abia as one of the better managed States.

Ikpeazu charged civil servants in the State to continue to support his government’s pro-people policies and to vote for the guber candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Sir Okey Ahaiwe, who he said, would even outperform his present government.

The Governor, who explained that there is no perfect system in the world except in heaven, cautioned Abia civil servants against entrusting Abia State with those who may not safeguard their jobs and general welfare.

Responding earlier, the Abia State Chairman of NULGE, Comrade Ikechi Nwogwe who spoke in appreciation on behalf of other civil servants, thanked the Governor for the gesture and promised his members’ continued support for government policies.

One of the workers, who identified herself as Ndidi Precious, said her promotion to the next level was an encouragement.
