Politician’s Home Set Ablaze By Unknown Gunmen In Imo

Some yet-to-be-identified gunmen yesterday set the country home of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the state House of Assembly, Ifeanyi Ozoemena, ablaze in the Okigwe Local Government Area of Imo State.

The Eastern Updates gathered that the gunmen also attacked and burnt a house belonging to Ozoemena’s father during the attack around 2pm.

The politician, who confirmed the arson to newsmen revealed that the gunmen operated unchallenged, adding that property worth millions of naira was destroyed by the fire.

He said, ‘My house and that of my father at Umuokparaoha village in Umulolo community in the Okigwe Local Government Area of Imo State were razed on Tuesday.’

They struck around 2pm, set the houses on fire and supervised the burning. The two houses and the properties got destroyed in the attack. They operated unchallenged. I am distraught. This is unfortunate.

‘I call on the Commissioner of Police to intervene. I am grateful that no life was lost. My aged parents were not around when they struck.’

In a related development, the Ebonyi State Police Command, on Wednesday, said one hoodlum was killed and another wounded in a gun battle that ensued between its officers and some assailants in the state.

In the gun duel that occurred in the Ivo Local Government Area of the state, an  Assistant Superintendent of Police was equally injured.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, said this in a statement on Wednesday.
