Listen to article

Former governor of Imo State, Chief Emeka Ihedioha has boasted to Nigerians that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would defeat the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Labour Party (LP) in 2023.

Ihedioha, chairman of the Atiku Presidential Campaign Council in the state, stated this at the inauguration of members of the Council at the party’s Secretariat in  Owerri.

The former governor noted that the state is predominantly PDP and so had good chances of winning the elections at all levels.

‘We must get this very clear. First, we have all accepted the responsibility of marketing and campaigning for election of our presidential candidate, Atiku. The fact is Imo State has always delivered PDP almost 100 percent since 1999 and 2023 will not be an expectation’.

‘I call on all of us to go back to our wards and local governments and work. Elections are not won in the party secretariat in Owerri. We must work hard, in unity and togetherness for us to deliver our candidates. Again, let us eschew bitterness and disunity.’

Earlier, the state Chairman, Charles Ugwu, who inaugurated members of PCC tasked members to work together for the success of the party.

‘We expect you to be dedicated so that our presidential candidate will be announced winner. Also, we have 27 House of Assembly candidates, 10 House of Representatives candidates, and three senatorial candidates. Our collective duty is to make sure all of them are returned.’

Greg Egu, the Director of the Campaign team said, ‘If we elect a PDP President, nobody will kick us out of office after seven months. If we deliver a president, anyone who wins the tick of PDP for Imo governorship will move straight to Douglas House.’

Ugwuh urged the committee to be guided by the party’s constitution and relevant electoral law and guidelines.
